Electrical Engineering N1-N6
Electrical Engineering: Light Current qualification covers levels N1-N6 and is designed to provide the theory of Electrical Engineering: Light Current and an optional practical component. You can attain a National Certificate or Diploma once you have worked 24 months (2000 working hours) in your field of study. This qualification consists of one compulsory part (N1-N6 theory) and two optional practical parts, beginners level (done between N1-N3) and advanced (done between N4-N6).
Admission Requirements:
- N1 Entry Requirement: Grade 9 (Std 7) Certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science OR no formal qualification for everyone 23 years or older.
- N3 Entry Requirement: Grade 11 (Std 9) Certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science or N2.
- N4 Entry Requirement: Matric/Grade 12 (with full mathematics and science 40%+ Pass rate), or N3 Pass (with mathematics and science)
NOTE: Proceed to next level only when the previous level has been successfully completed i.e. N4 for N5, etc.
What you get
National Certificate:
The student will receive a national certificate from the Department of Education if all external department exams are passed. This certificate is not issued by us, but only by the department of education.
National Diploma:
Work for 24 months (2 years) in the Electrical field of engineering industry obtaining relevant experience in at least two of the subjects done in N6, then apply for a National Diploma at the campus where they have studied.

- 1 Trimester (3 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects)
PART TIME:
- 2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects).
ONLINE:
- 2 Trimesters (6 Months) Per N-Level (4 Subjects).

Articulation Options
The following programmes are highly complementary, and students can articulate with direct access into the following from N3 level:
- Multi-Disciplinary Droughting National Certificate
- National Certificate: Architectural Technology NQF5
- National Diploma: Structural Steel Detailing NQF5
PART 1, N1-N6 Theory (Compulsory)
- This part is compulsory. Students are required to complete all their N1-N6 theory subjects to attain their national certificate and diploma. The details of these subjects can be found under the curriculum tab.
PART 2, Beginner Practical’s (Optional Extra)
- You can complete a BEGINNER level, 1-week program of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N1 or before N3 and you will be given a certificate and logbook of the components that you have completed.
PART 3, Advanced Practical’s (Optional Extra)
- You can complete an ADVANCED level, 1-week program of optional practical hours within your field of study. This is done just after either N4 or before N6 and you will be given a certificate and logbook of the components that you have completed. Part 2 to be completed first.
